“Ten days of early starts, and then the only decision left is shade or sun.”
Nungwi sits at the top of the island, where the tidal range is small enough that the sea stays swimmable all day — which is not true of much of Zanzibar's east coast. For travellers finishing a northern-circuit safari with three or four nights of rest, that difference matters more than almost anything else.
The resort runs along the beachfront: rooms with sea views and terraces, a pool set above the sand, and a restaurant that moves outside for dinner. Snorkelling, diving, dhow cruises and sunset sailing are all arranged from the beach in front of the property, and Stone Town is roughly an hour and a half away by road for those who want a day of history.
The alarm does not go off. Breakfast runs late, the sea is the temperature of a bath, and the only structure to the day is deciding whether to take the sunset dhow. It is the deliberate counterweight to the safari — and the reason people go home rested rather than merely impressed.
