These answers cover the planning decisions travellers most often need to resolve. Your written Wildlux proposal and booking documents determine the services, inclusions and payment terms for your own journey. Where an arrangement depends on a property, flight or activity provider, ask us to confirm it before booking.
Planning your safari
When is the best time to go?
Choose dates around the region and experience you want. June to October is a useful dry-season starting point for many Tanzania itineraries; southern calving-season trips are usually planned around January to March. Neither weather nor migration events are guaranteed. Read the best time to visit guide.
How many days do I need?
Seven to ten days can allow a first safari to explore a few areas without changing camp constantly. Shorter trips work when the route is focused; multi-country or primate combinations usually need more time. Count full viewing days separately from arrival, departure and long transfers.
How far ahead should I book?
Begin once your dates and budget are reasonably clear, especially for a specific camp, family room, festive period or gorilla permit. There is no universal deadline. Availability, rather than a generic number of months, determines whether the preferred plan can be secured.
Tanzania or Kenya?
Both can support excellent wildlife journeys. Compare the parks, season, flight connections, accommodation and total pace that fit your interests. Our Kenya versus Tanzania comparison explains the choice without assuming one country suits everyone.
Can I combine countries or add Zanzibar?
Yes, subject to time, connections and entry requirements. Extra borders and flights add logistics, so choose a combination for a clear reason. A Zanzibar extension can work before or after safari; see our Zanzibar safari planning guide.
Private vehicles, guides and daily pace
Are Wildlux safaris private?
Wildlux's core safari offering is private and tailor-made. Your proposal should identify the private vehicle and guiding arrangements. Confirm individual activities and transfers separately: a flight or lodge-operated excursion may involve other guests even within a private overall itinerary.
Can we choose departure times and make stops?
A private trip allows more flexibility around your interests, but park hours, safety, transfer distances and booked activities still apply. Discuss early starts, meal breaks and shorter days with the guide. Stops must be in suitable permitted places.
Who will guide us?
Guiding arrangements are part of the confirmed itinerary. Tell us about language needs, birding, photography or other specialist interests at enquiry stage. Multi-country routes or particular activities can involve different local teams; ask which parts share the same guide.
What vehicle will we use?
Request the vehicle details for your actual route, including passenger capacity, luggage space and viewing arrangement. If equipment, mobility or family seating requirements matter, specify them early. Do not assume a photograph of one vehicle confirms every feature of the vehicle allocated.
Lodges and tented camps
What types of accommodation do you use?
Options range from comfortable lodges and tented camps to more elaborate luxury properties. Location, room configuration and service matter as much as a category label. The lodge and camp guide helps explain the differences.
Will you name the exact properties?
Yes. Wildlux proposals name the intended properties. If availability requires a change, ask for the named alternative and any price difference. Check the quoted room type and meal plan too; these can vary within the same property.
Are tented camps safe?
Safari camps operate in wildlife environments and some are unfenced. Follow staff briefings, use escorts when instructed and supervise children. A luxury tent is still part of a wild setting; comfort does not remove the need to observe camp rules.
Will we have electricity and Wi-Fi?
Facilities differ. Ask the named camp about charging points, supply hours, connectivity and any equipment you need to power. Treat internet access as a convenience to confirm, rather than a guaranteed way to work or make an important call from every location.
Can you arrange family rooms?
Ask early, with every child's age. Family tents, connecting rooms, extra beds and occupancy rules differ by property. A suitable room needs to be available for your dates; it should be confirmed in the proposal rather than assumed from the website.
Meals, drinking water and dietary requirements
Are all meals included?
Read the meal plan for each night and travel day. Safari and city stays can have different inclusions. Your proposal should state which meals are included, along with any exclusions such as premium drinks or meals during independent time.
Can vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free diets be accommodated?
Tell us the precise requirement before booking so we can check each property. Distinguish preference from allergy or coeliac-related needs. We should not promise an arrangement until the camp confirms what its kitchen can safely provide.
Is drinking water included?
Wildlux's published guidance lists drinking water among typical safari inclusions, but your specific proposal governs the arrangement. Confirm what is supplied in the vehicle and at each property, including whether other drinks are charged separately.
Children, infants and accessibility
Is safari suitable for children?
Many vehicle safaris can be planned for families, with suitable rooms and manageable drive lengths. Camp and activity age restrictions still matter. Gorilla trekking, walking and mountain activities require separate checks rather than being treated as standard family game drives.
Can we travel with an infant?
Discuss the route with a qualified clinician and give us feeding, sleep and practical requirements. Plan conservatively around transfers and access to care. Infant equipment, food preparation and room arrangements must be checked with the actual providers.
Are car seats available?
Do not assume they are included. Ask us to confirm the required size, availability and compatibility with the proposed vehicle before booking. The child's age and needs should be stated clearly.
Can days be shorter or adapted for mobility needs?
Tell us what you need to do comfortably, including vehicle access, walking distance and steps at accommodation. We can assess the proposed route and properties; suitability must be confirmed individually rather than guaranteed for every safari.
Health, safety and emergencies
Do I need vaccinations or malaria prevention?
Arrange a travel-health consultation using your full itinerary and transit route. Requirements and clinical advice are not the same for everyone. Start with our health and vaccination guide, then obtain individual medical advice.
Do I need travel insurance?
Wildlux's published guidance requires comprehensive cover including medical evacuation. Check activities and destinations with your insurer. Tanzania also has inbound insurance requirements to verify separately; our insurance guide explains the distinction.
What happens if I need medical help?
Tell the guide or camp team promptly so they can help coordinate appropriate assistance and contact your insurer. Carry emergency contacts and policy details offline. Remote location, weather and provider availability affect logistics; no immediate evacuation time can be promised.
Is safari risk-free?
No travel is risk-free. Follow guide and camp instructions, keep wildlife distance and check official travel advice for the actual route. Raise health or practical concerns early so the itinerary can be assessed before departure.
Money, tipping and packing
What currency should I bring, and are cards accepted?
Use local currency for suitable small purchases and confirm card acceptance at named properties. Carry an appropriate backup. Our currency and payments guide explains cash planning, ATMs and invoice payments.
How much should I tip?
Ask for current guidance for your group and activity. Clarify whether an amount is per person, per vehicle or for the whole trip. Lodge staff arrangements and mountain crews are different from a private safari guide.
What should I wear and pack?
Bring practical layers for cool starts and warmer afternoons, sun protection and suitable footwear for the planned activities. Check the packing guide and any specific lodge or trekking instructions.
What luggage and camera equipment can I bring?
Confirm every flight's weight and bag restrictions, including camera equipment and hand luggage. Soft bags may be requested on small aircraft. Binoculars and a camera can add to the experience; pack within the actual carrier's allowance.
Migration expectations and booking
Are river crossings guaranteed?
No. Choosing the relevant region and allowing several nights provides opportunity, not certainty. The migration is worthwhile beyond crossings; keep time for resident wildlife and other behaviour too.
How do I start planning with Wildlux?
Share dates, traveller ages, interests and an approximate budget. Identify any non-negotiable property or experience. We use those details to prepare a named, costed proposal that can be discussed before confirmation.
Is a deposit required, and when is the balance due?
Wildlux's published guidance describes confirmation by deposit and settlement before travel. Your current invoice and booking terms specify the amount and due dates. This FAQ does not introduce a universal percentage or deadline.
What happens if plans change?
Contact us promptly and consult the terms attached to your booking. Supplier conditions, timing and the services affected determine what can be changed and at what cost. Do not assume a change, cancellation or refund is automatic.
