“You hear Tarangire before you see it — elephants moving through the scrub below the terrace.”
Staying inside Tarangire National Park changes the day. Game drives start at first light without a park gate to reach, and the last hour of afternoon light — the best hour in Tarangire — can be spent in the field rather than driving out. The lodge sits on high ground with views over the valley the elephants use, and the sound of the park carries up to the terrace.
Rooms are generously sized and built in local stone, with private balconies angled towards the plains. Public areas open outwards: a wide dining terrace, a lounge, and a pool set on the escarpment edge. It is not a small camp — it is a well-run park lodge, and it earns its place on the itinerary through location, comfort and reliability.
Coffee before sunrise, then straight into the park while the light is still low and the elephants are moving to water. Back for a late breakfast, an hour at the pool through the heat, then out again from three until dusk. Dinner on the terrace with the valley going dark below — and, most nights, something calling in the distance.
